Chard Mix - Miscuglio di Colori (14-17)
Chard Mix - Miscuglio di Colori (14-17)
Formula mix of three chards: ruby red, a yellow stem chard and one with white stems & green leaves. These are three different types, not just different colors, so if you plant a row of chard you will have options when picking for a specific recipe. The red is small and thin-stemmed; the yellow is larger in stem and leaf with a deep yellow color in the stem; the white has a thick stem and the largest leaves. Chard can be planted in early spring, picked heavily until mid summer, then trimmed back -- as soon as the weather cools, it will come back to life and provide greens into cool weather, especially if you protect it from frost with row cover. Chard is a natural accompaniment to white beans and is often used in soups. It's an easy substitute in recipes calling for spinach, especially in summer when it's still going strong after the spinach has died down. It is often braised in olive oil with garlic and served as a side dish. Chard is known as a nutritional powerhouse, with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits.
8 gram packet. Approximately 40-60 seeds per gram.

Since March it's been horribly hot, 86-104 degrees where I live. The drought stretches on. All of the spinach bolted without even getting one picking. I planted these in February and I'm still harvesting in July. Although the photo shows yellow, white, & red....I got an orange stem too.
