Sugar Loaf leave chicory. Upright light green variety with large long and very tight head. Reliable. Franchi special selections are varieties selected primarily for taste and consistency. Best for fall, but will work in the spring from transplants. Easy to grow and easy to head up. Use cooked or in salads. Approximately 600-900 seeds per gram.

Just superb in flavor.
It's crisp and succulent, with the perfect balance of bitter and sweet. Since I first grew it last year, it's been my favorite leafy vegetable, and one I don't expect to be surpassed any time soon.
Dear gardeners, If you haven't grown the chicory family yet this is a great place to start. Remember these are cool weather crops. Start them in the late summer or fall and cover with a cold frame or cloche when the temp. gets really cold. This particular chicory forms a nice cone shaped head, and is sweet like iceberg lettuce but better than iceberg lettuce. Your friends will know your a master gardener with these pretty cones of green in your winter landscape.
