Watermelon - Asahi Miyako Ibrido F1 (3-5)
Watermelon - Asahi Miyako Ibrido F1 (3-5)
This Japanese melon is so great that we had to carry it. A California melon grower reports it is one of the sweetest and best melons he has grown. These seeds are hard to get and very expensive. This is a hybrid seed. 75-85 days depending on your climate. Melons run 5-8 pounds. About 20 seeds per pack. Approximately 6-20 seeds per gram.

This is-- easily--the best tasting variety we've grown in the last few years. Extremely sweet, like many Japanese hybrids, but also quite large. Ours averaged 15-20 pounds. Held up to two weeks without refrigeration or over-ripening. No splits. Seems to be somewhat resistant to fusarium wilt in our location, though, I've not seen that quality noted anywhere in publications. Will definitely grow again.
First year growing.....but will certainly grow again! Im in Georgia (USA) zone 7A/8A. Early, productive, healthy grower . After a cool spring 2020 first ripe melon just after Independence Day. Excellent flavor, and sweetness my entire family loved it. Suggest trial in northern/short season growing areas. This just may be the best watermelon so far!!
I am a novice gardener. I was getting lazy by the time I transplanted my watermelon and just put them in the ground and forgot about them (honestly, I barely even looked at them). From three plants we got 2 delicious watermelons to enjoy. I am definitely growing this variety again. Most of our other plants during that month were decimated by cucumber beetles, but they didn't touch the watermelon!
Picked my first ripe mellon this afternoon.
Very Sweet, great texture.
